Some Belief Systems are more BS than others, in my Belief System!
I have become fascinated with an idea that is being scientifically proven now – your experience of the world is created through what you believe. I had an experience with a partner that validated this for me so clearly I couldn’t deny it.
I was with this man for nearly 2 years, and it was one of the best relationships I’ve ever had. And definitely the WORST. There was so much affection, love, depth, magic and spiritual connection. The big problem? His jealousy and paranoia. He would challenge me constantly about what I had been doing, and found it impossible to trust my faithfulness. I knew I was faithful, and I kept trying to convince him, and heal the hurt that I knew he was carrying. Obviously, that didn’t work, or this story would have a different ending!
Here’s what really opened my eyes to this. We would be out, and I’d do something really simple and normal like go to the toilet. Something you don’t think twice about anyway. I’d come back a few minutes later and he would ask me where I’d been for the last hour and in his mind he’d created a whole story, and actually seen me disappear with someone.
Naturally, I thought he was just being dramatic and troublesome at first, but slowly it dawned on me that he really believed it.
It was real for him. 5 minutes WAS an hour in his reality. He really DID see me sneaking away with someone else. I saw this happen many times, and such an intense change of energy with it that I still feel very strongly that although he was making it all up, he wasn’t making it up! His entire state of being completely changed with this overwhelming thought.
We all get this on some level I think. We’ve all experienced it, we’ve been at the exact same events as other people but we all saw a different thing, heard someone say something clearly that they swear they never said…or imagine what they might be saying and feel an emotional response to that even though it hasn’t happened. We jump in the dark because a light shade looks like a person for a split second.
What we know about our senses and our brains, is that we take in the world through our senses, and we process that in the brain – according to what we know, believe to be true or have experienced before. Everything we see, hear, taste, touch and smell is filtered before we actually have the experience of it. So it seems to me like, if you want your experience to be primarily good, start by looking at your basic beliefs about stuff. I don’t just mean ‘what you think’. I mean what’s buried in the subconscious.
Getting right down to the real nitty gritty
It’s been said that we form most of our beliefs about the world by the age of 3. That’s quite staggering when you really stop to think about it. How can we be conscious at all of the beliefs we formed before we could even remember having a conscious thought?
So to access these ‘programs’ that are running in our lives, creating our perceptions of reality, we need to be able to access the subconscious mind. There are a few ways to do this
- Looking deeper into patterns
- A good reading with a clear person
A wee story from my subconscious
Thank Goodness I don’t have to figure it all out!
